Phoebe Faucher | Summer 2026

Phoebe is a student at the University of Rhode Island, where she studies Marine Biology and Wildlife Conservation. She has gained an interest in all things ocean-related after taking a Marine Biology class in high school and vacationing on the beach every year. In college, she was chosen to participate in an independent study on salmon farm waste. Because of the newfound knowledge of aquaculture, Phoebe became curious about the fisheries aspect of marine biology. Phoebe had no prior connection to fishing or the commercial fishing industry, which is why she wanted to try something new by becoming an intern for CFCRI. She hoped this internship would give her exposure to diverse perspectives on the use and value of marine resources in the Rhode Island community. Fun fact: Phoebe has hiked to the top of a volcano in the Galápagos Islands.

Norah Van Vranken | Summer 2025

Norah Van Vranken, a Marine Affairs major at the University of Rhode Island with a passion for sustainable fisheries and marine policy. I have hands-on experience in the fishing industry, having worked commercially in Maine and on Martha's Vineyard. These experiences have shaped my interest in bridging the gap between environmental conservation and the perspectives of those who rely on the ocean for their livelihoods. Through my work, I hope to support policies that protect marine ecosystems while strengthening the coastal communities and fishing industries that depend on them.

Corinne DeAngelis | Summer 2024

Corrine graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2025 with a degree in Wildlife and Conservation Biology. Her love for the outdoors stemmed from her high school days working at a technical school in the Environmental and Science program. She had no previous experience with commercial fishing. This program encouraged her to push herself out of her comfort zone and pursue a hunting and conservation course in her senior year. With these experiences, she now understands a little more of how the minds of fishermen and hunters operate. Since completing her internship with the CFCRI, Corinne has recently moved to Kentucky and now works in the National Park Service as a Seasonal Interpretation Ranger.
